The 2nd Clean Energy Expo Asia Highlights the Continued Interest and Growth of Clean Energy in Asia

1 12 2010 The second Clean Energy Expo Asia Trade Fair and Conference was officially opened today by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources. Clean Energy Expo Asia is jointly organized by the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore (SEAS) and Koelnmesse, and is part of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). This year, there are more than 170 exhibitors, over 115 international speakers and about 5,000 participants from over 40 countries, in the Technology, Services, Finance and Government sectors. There is a 30% increase in participation from last year and the exhibition space at the Trade Fair has also doubled. Asia is steadily asserting its dominance in the clean energy sector and investments in Asia is predicted to double and reach US$70 billion in 2010. In light of such growing trends, the Conference will update participants on developments in the clean energy sector across Asia and globally, including Solar Power Technology, Wind Power Commercialization, Energy Efficiency Investment, Clean Projects Financing and Investment, and Clean Energy Projects. In his opening speech, Dr Yaacob shared that Singapore’s key strategy towards climate change mitigation and sustainable development is to improve energy efficiency and our goal is to reduce energy intensity by 35% from 2005 levels by 2030, and this will be achieved through an optimal mix of measures including standards, incentives and education. He added that the clean energy industry is a strategic growth area in Singapore, and the government has allocated about $350 million for clean energy initiatives to grow Singapore’s GDP from the clean energy sector to $1.7 billion and to generate 7,000 jobs by 2015. This year’s Trade Fair features solar and wind energy industry players such as REC, Phoenix Solar, Sanyo Asia, SERIS and Cygnuspower, and will host eight country pavilions from Canada, New Zealand, Taiwan, United States, Brazil, Europe, Japan and Singapore. The Trade Fair also features a new Sustainable Mobility Pavilion, with leading Electric Vehicle (EV) players, such as Audi, EV World (featuring BMW and Porsche), Tesla and Toyota Tsusho, showcasing their innovative EV technologies and cutting-edge EV models.
